AS Vintage x sosumiii
For people who come across you for the first time - who exactly is sosumiii?
Who is Sosumi? I think it's my dark side as a person - everything I was afraid of when I was young and how that shaped me over time. That's the personal side. As for fashion - hoes, drugs, lasers.
Do you remember the first moment when clothes stopped being just clothes to you?
At 14 I discovered ASAP Rocky and started watching more American music videos. I got into streetwear when it was still in its early days - a completely different world from what I knew. I remember selling all my "Urban wear" stuff - brands like Pitbull, Ciemna Strefa, the whole thing - just to scrape enough together to buy something from Supreme.
What influenced your style and aesthetic the most? Music, the internet, people, films - or the streets?
Definitely music. It's always been my escape, something I love, something I couldn't live without. I'm obsessed with rhythm and flow. Growing up I was a huge The Weeknd fan - though he turned out to be a terrible guide for your emotional life. Right now I'm into hip-hop, gabber, alternative music and nu-metal. The streets left their mark too - people who know me well know that right after my show at Vetements, instead of stepping into the spotlight, I hit rock bottom.
What defines your aesthetic today?
Truth. The truth about me - not pretty, not sweet, but truth is something fashion is seriously lacking. A friend of mine once called my style "street haute couture."
Do you feel like people today are "wearing fashion" or just trying to look like a Pinterest board?
I had this whole debate with Mrs Beata from "Komis Lampka" - that young people all look the f*cking same, like copy-paste robots. What we see on the streets, the trends, the TikToks - people follow that stuff religiously. I think it's mostly about not being excluded from their groups and communities.
What are you focused on most right now? Designing, styling, or building your own world around fashion?
I'm helping people through my modeling agency $0$models0 . We work with kids who have problems, but also older people - our oldest model is 32. I do some designing on the side, but mostly I'm focused on getting my personal life together. The last 8 years have been about getting to where I am now.
Does working with musicians and other "stars" feel more like chaos or a perfectly controlled plan?
I think it depends on who you're working with, where and how - but every collaboration I've had, I remember the same way: it went well. And that's how it was supposed to be.
What's the most unexpected problem you've faced before a show or styling job?
I can share a story from the Vetements show in Paris - Guram Gvasalia couldn't find gloves for me and asked me to keep my hands in my hoodie pocket. If you look at the show, every model except me has their hands visible and gloves on.
Are there clothes you'd never wear, even if they became a trend?
Of course. I have my own style and I think it's pretty versatile - but what I value most is simplicity and functionality. I stick to that and I don't chase trends.
If you could dress one person from any point in history in something you made - who would it be?
I'd dress the Renaissance man himself - Leonardo da Vinci.
Is there a piece of clothing or a detail that immediately tells you someone really "gets" fashion?
Absolutely and it's jewelry.
Imagine someone finds your designs in an old warehouse 20 years from now — what would you want them to think?
I'd want them to check the quality. How American it feels. You don't find stuff like this in stores - no cheap mass-produced garbage. And from here I want to give a shoutout to Sebastian Żmuda - biggest shoutout in this whole interview, hahaha.
